RTX 3090 – Hot Stuff!
Amid the global silicon shortage and limited availability of high-end GPUs, we were fortunate to secure two RTX 3090 GPUs. The MSI Suprim X cards are among the fastest GPUs on the market, coming highly overclocked out of the box, and their sheer size means each card comes with a steel support stand to handle the weight.
Once installed, we put the GPUs through rigorous real-time and GPU rendering tests. The advanced cooling system effectively managed temperatures and prevented thermal throttling, although the sideways venting towards the tempered glass panel caused some cracks. Replacing the panel with a steel “bulletproof” alternative solved the issue, allowing uninterrupted testing.
The results were impressive: GPU render times were halved, offering a substantial time saving for animation rendering. The real advantage, however, lies in the 24GB of onboard GPU RAM, which allows our real-time rendering applications to handle more objects, effects, and scene complexity. This brings us significantly closer to the high-quality results of CPU rendering while enabling faster workflows for architectural visualisation, property renders, and virtual reality projects.
